URUGUAY

URUGUAY

Gentle seas, lands and people

"'La Huella restaurant—I read about it!' Mom says with excitement. 'Supposed to be the best restaurant in the entire world!' If it’s not the best in the world, it’s close. La Huella is on a beach. There’s a thatched roof held up by wooden cylinders that appear the same as those used for boardwalks, an open kitchen with that patented Uruguayan woodfire grill. After a sushi starter, I order a fish the size of my arm. Mom gets grilled octopus. We enjoy some sips of Albariño, a local Uruguayan grape. It has a nice peach taste. If there is such a thing as a perfect lunch, this is it."

DIFFICULTY TO VISIT RATING:

1/5  EASY

Very peaceful and calm country. Easy to access from Argentina. Safe to drive, the people are incredibly kind and welcoming.

After your 10th bite of steak and third glass of wine, you look beyond the easy going smiling faces in the restaurant towards the rich blue ocean and ask yourself, "Why the hell don't I live here?"
