HAITI

Haiti can break your heart but then fill it around the next bend.

"Darry brakes and motions me off the motorbike, he points to two boys with a horse. The only way up this road is on horseback. Soon I'm escorted by a group of seven kids, who run alongside, the horse grunts and sweats, the gravel road turns into a vertical path. Once at the top, the green beauty of the Haitian half of Hispaniola comes into view."

Due to the current political instability, it's not advised that folks travel to Haiti. That being said, in calmer times, there are an abundance of guides whose services can be secured with some advanced research. Best to correspond with one and figure out the best travel plan for your needs. Many NGOs from the USA operate in Haiti and often take volunteers.
