SPAIN

Barcelona may be the world's perfect city,

Madrid is regality personified,

 and there's Ibiza!

"The pictures I stared at for hours as kid are real now. Mom the smiling bride, Dad the nervous but excited husband. They were married at that altar. Here in Madrid at the Basilica de San Miquel, December 1983. I guess you could say I came from this church. I run my hand along the top of the pew. The church wasn't full that day, my parents had eloped, there was just a few friends and one or two family members. I light a votive for my parents. I see a priest who looks old enough to have married them. I say thank you in Spanish. He points to the collection basket."

CITIES VISITED:

MUST DO:

FAVORITE MEMORY:

Barcelona
Madrid
Ibiza

Learn

Barcelona: La Sagra Familia, Park Gūell, Barceloneta Beach. Honestly, just explore without a guide book. It's a city you shouldn't plan, fall into things.

Madrid: Plaza Mayor, Royal Palace of Madrid. Eat a steak at Casa Paco like my parents did on their wedding night.

Ibiza: Do one electronica concert with the masses, see the old town and a quiet kindness, cautiously step-over the sprawled out sleeping bodies at the airport when you leave (this is a fact.)
The sangria on a hot summer night in the plaza or on the street. Can't be beat.

DIFFICULTY TO VISIT RATING:

1/5  EASY

A leading country of Europe, walkable and good transportation.

Barcelona is a real gem because of the mix of real beach and real city. It's a perfect blend. There are no bad days there. The history of Madrid is special and lives proudly in the streets. Ibiza is a see-it-once type of place, unless you enjoy burning money on fire and blowing out your ear drums.
