CROATIA

CROATIA

The gateway to the Balkans with pristine beaches and a powerful history

"The local kids kept doing these incredible backflips off the cliff face, I watched in awe, concern and general fascination. I swam out into the clear waters of the Adriatic Sea to get a closer look. One of the kids motion for me to come and climb up onto the jagged rocks and give it a go. I got up about a fourth of the way to where they were hanging out and plotting their jumps before I pulled the rip chord. I jumped sideways off the rock and about fifteen feet down, smash and splash. Gah that water hit hard. I was fine but man those kids were tough."

CITIES VISITED:

MUST DO:

FAVORITE MEMORY:

Durbrovnik
Take a sunset sail around in the Adriatic Sea.
Walk the atop the walls of the city.
Take a mountain cable car and observe the ingenuity that went into constructing the old city along the sea.
Use Dubrovnik as a jumping off point for day trips to Bosnia and Montenegro.
Sailing under the Franjo Tudman Bridge at night and admiring the light of the horizon hovering above the city.

DIFFICULTY TO VISIT RATING:

1/5  EASY

Croatia is simple to see. Dubrovnik is quite walkable and not hard to find buses to see other places. Plenty of tour operators will navigate border crossings to Bosnia or Montenegro.

Dubrovnik is a neat place from the old city fortress to the more contemporary surrounding areas full of cafes and bars. More than anything, it's a great launching pad to explore nearby Balkans countries to see more of Croatia up north.
