SWEDEN

A Stockholm summer may just give you the syndrome.

"'You want to eat here?' The maitre D looks me up and down. It's a Friday afternoon in June, I'm drenched in sweat, wearing shorts and sneakers and look a little shabby. At least there's a collar on my shirt. He reluctantly leads me to a table with a decent view of the dock but far enough way from the regulars. Geez, these people are a fashion catalog, blonde, fit and perfectly pressed. There's a reason stereotypes form into stereotypes."

CITIES VISITED:

MUST DO:

FAVORITE MEMORY:

Stockholm
Fjäderholmarna
See the king's writing room at the Royal Palace.
Visit Skeppsbron Street in Gamla Stan and the Nobel Prize museum.
Take a boat tour of the archipelago and a day trip to the island of Fjäderholmana.
Having my first Swedish meatballs that weren't served at Ikea--and yes they were fantastic.

DIFFICULTY TO VISIT RATING:

1/5  EASY

Super clean and walkable, trains not hard to navigate.

My first and only foray into Scandinavia did not disappoint. The warmth of summer opened up Stockholm and Sweden in a way which is not typical. It's a much different place when cold and I'm not sure I would've done as well in frigid temps. But Sweden in the summer--it's golden like the yellow in their flag.
