BOLIVIA

BOLIVIA

It'll take your breath away...if you still have one at altitude.

"The face stares me down, resolute and powerful. At 21,122 feet, Illimani is the protector of La Paz. Like a man guarding a door, the mountain sizes me up as it comes into view while my flight descends into the El Alto International Airport. Survival here has never been easy. The luxuries from the modern world have made it tolerable, but it is still hard to fathom how 2.5 million people live in and above the canyons in the shadow of the peak. I take one last breath of pressurized airplane air as the side door opens, unsure of how my body will react at 13,325 feet."
