MONACO

All you need is a day and that's about as much you want to pay for.

"The whole place felt silly to me. It was hard to distinguish what was actually rich and what was being sold as "this is what you think rich actually is so have at it." Nevertheless the Casino de Monte-Carlo, the rows of yachts that were parked like cars outside a Wal-Mart, the posters about the Formula One car race and Rolex advertisements sold a culture, I just wasn't sure how many that could afford it were actually here."

CITIES VISITED:

MUST DO:

FAVORITE MEMORY:

Monaco
Put on a collard shirt and walk inside the Casino de Monte-Carlo.
Walk La Condamine and then take a dip off the concrete Solarium Beach.

Being denied entry to the outdoor patio of high-end restaurant because I had sweat through my shirt and my feet were too sandy.

DIFFICULTY TO VISIT RATING:

1/5  EASY

Little hilly to walk in places but very easily accessed by train. You can see the entire country in a day--you read that right.

Occasionally hip with the jet setters, in recent times the place feels like it has become a caricature of itself. But it's an easy day trip from the South of France so count the country!
