ENGLAND

ENGLAND

Those rainy days and superfluous nights.

"I liked Islington, it had a sort of Upper West of NYC feel, a place where my parents had once lived. There were pockets of pretension but a lot less of the British propriety so prevalent in Chelsea or Kensington. This suited me well because I always seemed to make an ass out of myself in front of Brits. Maybe it was my Irish heritage, my large gruff American frame. I don't know, it always felt like they were mocking me. But in Islington, they just wanted to drink a beer and crap on Arsenal for a poorly played match."

CITIES VISITED:

MUST DO:

FAVORITE MEMORY:

London
Walk the Islington Tunnel Canal.
Buckingham Palace.
Abbey Road.
A pint at Anglesea Arms.
Hyde Park.
See the Palace of Westminster and soak in the British political scene.
Put on a blazer and try to sneak into Anabel's.
Being in London for the day of their PM race. Not as intense as the U.S. gets about election day but the local tabloid coverage wouldn't lend you to believe that.

DIFFICULTY TO VISIT RATING:

1/5  EASY

No language barrier, great subway, walkable. Just cross the street the correct way.

Some cities are distinct cultures and London may personify that best. By the time you leave you may pick up some British slang and even have a desire for a new umbrella and three-piece suit. But ultimately the fun in the place is finding the self-deprecating locals. So many take themselves so seriously, when it's poked fun at, it's a real laugh riot. Ahoy!
