FRANCE

I went to Paris a few years back, then on my journey I discovered Juan-les-pins. I think I like the South of France more.

"I find out the Belles Rives Hotel is where F. Scott Fitzgerald stayed here and did some significant writing. I couldn't afford to stay there but I could buy a drink in its seaside cafe. I hole up for a second and slow sip an Aperol Spritz. Lots of good looking people soak in the sun, old couples even jump off the pier and swim into this calm part of the Mediterranean. The whole French, work to live as opposed to the United States live to work comparison runs through my head. This is an easy place to write. I get why that Lost Generation escaped for a minute. Creativity feels easier over here, without the weight of expectation of the never-ending churn of the American work ethic."

CITIES VISITED:

MUST DO:

FAVORITE MEMORY:

Nice
Antibes
Juan-les-Pins
Cannes
Very simple--enjoy the beach, have some wine, walk around. Probably no easier place to find what you want, you don't need a guide.
For all the deserved attention the sea gets, the parks and gardens of Juan-les-Pins are spectacular.

DIFFICULTY TO VISIT RATING:

1/5  EASY

Train and bus access between the seaside towns is quite simple. Everything you want to experience is walkable.

Even with crowds there's a tranquility in the South of France you long for---LONG after you've left. Romantic trips are a must, with a loved one or your own romantic dreams.
